About Typography
Typographic points come in more than one size, which is why type measurements don't always agree. The PostScript point used by design software is exactly 1/72 inch, while the older TeX point is very slightly smaller. A pica is 12 points, and at 96 dpi one pixel is 0.75 pt — so 12 pt type is 16 px.
