About PDF to Text

PDF to Text pulls the words out of a PDF so you can copy, edit, or search them. Drop in a PDF and it extracts the text from every page, ready to copy or download as a plain .txt file. It reads the text that's already in the document, so it works instantly on normal PDFs — and everything happens in your browser, so your file is never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract text from a PDF?
Drop your PDF in and the text from every page appears in seconds. Use Copy to grab it all, or Download .txt to save it as a plain text file you can open anywhere.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. This tool reads the text layer that's already in the PDF, so it works on normal (digitally created) PDFs. A scanned or photographed page is just an image with no text to pull — reading that needs OCR, which this tool doesn't do.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The text is extracted entirely in your browser; your file never leaves your device, so it's safe for private or confidential documents.
Why does the spacing or layout look different?
Extraction returns the words in reading order as plain text, so multi-column layouts, tables, and precise spacing don't carry over. It's the content you want to reuse, not a pixel-perfect copy of the page.
