About CSS Units
CSS mixes absolute and relative units, and the relative ones are what let a layout scale. An inch is fixed at 96 pixels whatever the real screen does, so a point is 1/72 of that — 1.333 px. Rem is measured against the root font size, 16px by default, so 1.5rem is 24px. Em works the same way but against the parent, which is why nested ems compound.
