Frequently asked questions

How is a weighted grade calculated?

Each score is multiplied by its weight, those are added up, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. So 90% at 20% weight and 80% at 30% weight gives (90×20 + 80×30) ÷ 50 = 84%.

Do the weights need to add up to 100%?

No. The calculator averages over the weights you've entered, so you can calculate your class grade partway through the term. Once every category is in and the weights total 100%, the result is your final course grade.

Can it tell me what I need on the final exam?

Not directly — this computes your current course grade from the assignment scores and weights you enter. To test a target, add the final as a row and try different scores to see the overall grade it produces.

What letter grade will I get?

It shows the letter grade for your percentage on the common US scale (A = 93–96, A- = 90–92, B+ = 87–89, and so on). Your school's exact cutoffs may differ slightly.
