Dead Pixel Test

Fill your screen with solid colors to find dead or stuck pixels and backlight bleed.

Fill the screen with a solid color and look for pixels that stay the wrong color — a dead pixel stays black, a stuck pixel stays lit. Black also reveals backlight bleed. For a real check, go fullscreen and view up close.

About Dead Pixel Test

A dead pixel test fills your screen with solid colors so faulty pixels stand out. Pick a color to go fullscreen, then look closely: a dead pixel stays black on every color, a stuck pixel stays lit, and a black screen reveals backlight bleed. Cycle colors with a click or the arrow keys and press Esc to exit. It runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a dead and a stuck pixel?
A dead pixel receives no power and stays black on every color. A stuck pixel is fixed on one color (red, green, or blue), so it shows up against the opposite backgrounds.
How do I test for dead pixels?
Go fullscreen and step through each solid color, inspecting the screen closely. Any dot that doesn't match the background is a dead or stuck pixel.
Can this fix a stuck pixel?
Not directly, but stuck pixels sometimes recover by rapidly cycling colors in that area, or with gentle pressure. Dead pixels usually can't be fixed.
What is backlight bleed?
It's light leaking around the edges of an LCD, most visible on an all-black screen in a dark room. Some bleed is normal; excessive bleed may warrant a return.
