About AVIF to PNG

An AVIF to PNG converter turns AVIF images into PNG files that any app can open — and unlike JPG, PNG keeps a transparent background intact. Drop the file in, set an exact pixel size if you need one, and download. Your browser already reads AVIF, so the conversion runs on your own device in about a second. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no sign-up and no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG supports transparent backgrounds, so an AVIF with transparency comes across intact. That's the main reason to pick PNG over JPG here — JPG has no transparency at all and fills those areas with solid white.
Should I convert my AVIF to PNG or to JPG?
PNG for logos, icons, screenshots, and anything with a transparent background or sharp edges. JPG for photographs, where it makes far smaller files. If the image has no transparency and it's a photo, JPG is usually the better trade.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your browser reads AVIF on its own, so the image is decoded and re-saved locally and never leaves your device.
Why is my PNG so much bigger than the AVIF?
Expect it — PNG is lossless, so it throws nothing away, while AVIF is heavily compressed. A PNG several times the size of the original AVIF is normal rather than a fault. If size matters more to you than perfect quality, convert to JPG instead.
Why won't my AVIF file open in the first place?
AVIF is a newer format. Browsers read it, but Windows Photos needs the AV1 Video Extension from the Microsoft Store, and older Photoshop versions and many phone apps can't open it at all.
