About Image & File Tools
Image tools usually mean uploading your picture to a stranger's server and hoping it is deleted afterwards. These do not: resizing, converting between formats, and generating icons all happen on your own device, and the file never leaves it. That makes them usable for the images you would not upload — a screenshot with customer data, a photo of a document, artwork before release. Format conversion covers the ones the browser handles awkwardly, including HEIC from an iPhone and AVIF, and the favicon generator produces the full set of sizes a site needs rather than a single file.
HEIC is the format most people meet by accident. iPhones shoot in it by default because it stores the same picture in roughly half the space, and then it refuses to open on a lot of desktop software and gets rejected by upload forms. Converting to JPG is usually all that is needed. AVIF is the newer version of the same trade — smaller files, patchy support in older software — and converting to PNG rather than JPG is the right call when the image has sharp edges, text, or transparency to preserve.
When resizing, decide first whether you are changing the pixel dimensions or the file size, because they are different problems. Cutting the dimensions of an oversized photo is almost always the bigger win and costs nothing visible. Beyond that, every further reduction is a trade against quality, and it is worth checking the result at the size it will actually be seen rather than zoomed in.
